Located just 35 miles northwest of Fort Worth, at the crossroads of US 380 and SH 114, Bridgeport is a great location to get away from it all. The city was named in 1860, when a bridge was built over the Trinity River to accommodate the Butterfield Stage overland mail route. The town continued to flourish in industry with is vast amounts of earthen treasures – coal, oil, gas and limestone.
Today, visitors can enjoy excellent golf, boating and fishing on Lake Bridgeport and great shopping in our historic downtown. Designated as a Main Street city in 2007, downtown Bridgeport has a lively mix of gift shop retail, personal service industry, and old-fashioned practical merchandise. Bridgeport also offers great family events such as the Butterfield Stage Days, Butterfield Rodeo and Rodeo Parade, Coal Miner’s Heritage Festival, Halloween Parade in Historic Downtown, and Christmas Parade as well as has a theater for events and shows.
