The Grapevine Vintage Railroad travels along the historic Cotton Belt Route between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards. The Railroad is serviced by two vintage locomotives which include “Puffy,” the 1896 Steam locomotive and oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South, and “Vinny,” a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive. Passengers enjoy riding in authentic 1920s and 1930s Victorian – style coaches as they take a step back in time and experience train travel as it was in the glory days of the expanding West. Pull into the Fort Worth Stockyards Station and you’ll be right in the middle of the Stockyards National Historic District where the Old West comes alive. The houselights dim, the spotlight explodes with brilliance and from behind the closed curtain steps announcer Clint White with a Texas-size welcome. After half a minute of warming up the audience, he loudly proclaims, “Ladies and gentlemen, Yellow Rose Productions presents the GRAPEVINE OPRY.” With that pronouncement, the curtain splits, illuminating a stage filled with spark and musical energy. Another edition of the wildly popular country music showcase and star-stepping stone is underway, bringing its usual fare of great music, quality vocalists and spontaneous humor to an ever-appreciative crowd (by the way, did we mention the GREAT music).
Texas’ Grapevine Opry may be small compared to the big halls and honky tonks which dominate the industry, but the performances are HUGE considering the fact that only the best up-and-coming talent from around the state and beyond consistently bask in the spotlight. Showcasing the finest contemporary and classic country music, special theme shows throughout the year sprinkle in ’50’s rock ’n’ roll, Texas and Western swing, ’30’s & ’40’s big band tunes, bluegrass and country Christian and Southern gospel. Of course, December is literally filled with Christmas shows of every description.
After an initial lifespan from the mid-70’s through the early 80’s, the landmark venue was reincarnated literally “from the ashes“ and 2010 marked the twenty-third anniversary of this resurrection.
With performances every Saturday, over the years audiences have been thrilled by the likes of Willie Nelson, the Judds, LeAnn Rimes, Keith Anderson, Miranda Lambert and Richie McDonald (formerly of Lonestar). The Grapevine Opry is a great place to hear quality music and entertainment.
